A change in the skin may be harmless, inflammatory, infectious, hormonal, medication-related or occasionally more serious. That is why assessment should come before treatment.
Understand the concern
We begin with the history, symptoms, duration, previous treatments, medication and relevant health factors.
Choose the right pathway
Some concerns can be managed in primary care. Others require specialist review, investigations, urgent referral or a different service.
Avoid inappropriate treatment
We do not treat every mark, rash or lesion as an aesthetic problem. Clinical judgement comes first.

Important service boundary
Booking does not guarantee diagnosis, treatment, prescription or a procedure. Some presentations require dermoscopy, biopsy, testing, urgent NHS assessment or a consultant dermatologist.
Urgent symptoms
Do not use this service for a rapidly deteriorating rash, severe allergic reaction, widespread blistering, serious infection or other emergency. Use NHS 111 or 999 as appropriate.

Specialist input is important when the diagnosis is uncertain, symptoms persist or first-line treatment has not worked.
Lesion assessment
Selected lesions may need specialist examination, dermoscopy, biopsy or onward referral rather than cosmetic removal.

We are currently recruiting. The page will be updated when specialist appointments become available.
Can I book a medical consultation for a skin problem?
Yes, for selected common concerns. The clinician will explain whether the issue can be managed within the service or needs specialist or urgent review.
Do you assess moles?
A clinician may assess the history and visible features, but suspicious or uncertain lesions may require urgent NHS or specialist assessment.
Can you remove a lesion at the first visit?
No procedure is guaranteed. Appropriate diagnosis, consent and risk assessment must come first.
Will I receive a prescription?
Only when clinically appropriate after assessment. Prescribing is not guaranteed.
What happens if skin cancer is suspected?
We will explain the concern and arrange or recommend the appropriate urgent pathway.
