GP-led sleep medicine in Nottingham
Understand what is keeping you awake
Private sleep assessment for adults experiencing insomnia, persistent tiredness, snoring, possible sleep apnoea or sleep that no longer feels restorative.
Dr M Ali Noaman looks beyond generic sleep advice to consider your sleep pattern, physical health, medication, hormones, weight, stress and possible breathing problems together.
A medical approach to poor sleep
When tiredness becomes normal, the cause can be easy to miss
Poor sleep may be related to stress or routine, but it can also be affected by medication, menopause, thyroid problems, pain, weight change, mood, alcohol, caffeine, breathing problems or a disrupted body clock.
Your consultation starts with the whole picture. We explore what happens at night, how you feel during the day and whether a medical, behavioural or respiratory problem may be contributing.
Sleep concerns we commonly assess
You do not need to know the diagnosis before attending
Many sleep problems overlap. Your consultation helps distinguish between disrupted sleep habits, insomnia, medical fatigue and symptoms that may need further investigation.
Insomnia
Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early or becoming increasingly anxious about sleep.
Persistent fatigue
Low energy, brain fog, poor concentration or tiredness despite allowing enough time for sleep.
Snoring
Loud snoring, dry mouth, morning headaches, disrupted sleep or concerns raised by a partner.
Possible sleep apnoea
Witnessed breathing pauses, choking episodes, unrefreshing sleep or excessive daytime sleepiness.
Shift-work sleep problems
Irregular sleep, rota-related fatigue and difficulty recovering between night shifts or changing schedules.
Unrefreshing sleep
Sleeping for several hours but waking feeling unrested, foggy or unable to function normally.
Your doctor
Sleep care with Dr M Ali Noaman
Dr M Ali Noaman is a Nottingham based GP with nearly two decades of medical experience and additional training in behavioural sleep medicine through the University of Oxford.
His GP background allows sleep problems to be considered alongside physical health, mental wellbeing, medication, hormonal change, weight, lifestyle and long-term health.
The purpose of the consultation is not to force every patient into the same pathway. It is to identify what is most likely to be contributing and decide what should happen next.

Sleep clinic Nottingham FAQs
Questions patients often ask
Your treatment is always based on individual assessment. The answers below provide general guidance before booking.
Can I book directly?
Yes. You do not need an NHS or private GP referral to arrange a sleep assessment at Clinica Vitalis.
What happens during the first consultation?
We review your sleep pattern, daytime symptoms, medical history, medication, lifestyle, stress, weight, hormones and possible breathing symptoms before agreeing a plan.
Do you assess insomnia?
Yes. We assess difficulty falling asleep, repeated waking, early waking and anxiety around sleep. Treatment depends on the likely cause and may include behavioural sleep strategies.
Can you assess snoring and possible sleep apnoea?
Yes. We can review snoring, witnessed breathing pauses, morning headaches, unrefreshing sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness. Further testing or specialist referral may be recommended.
Will I need blood tests?
Not necessarily. Blood tests may be recommended where symptoms could relate to anaemia, thyroid disease, hormonal change, nutritional deficiency or another medical condition.
Do you prescribe sleeping medication?
Medication may be considered where clinically appropriate, but it is not required or suitable for every patient. The benefits, limitations and risks are discussed before prescribing.
Can menopause affect sleep?
Yes. Hormonal change may contribute to night sweats, repeated waking, anxiety, changes in sleep quality and daytime fatigue. We consider these factors where relevant.
Can poor sleep affect weight and appetite?
Poor sleep can affect appetite, cravings, energy, glucose regulation and motivation. Sleep and weight may therefore need to be considered together.
Do you offer home sleep testing?
Home sleep testing is planned for selected patients and is coming soon. Where testing is not yet available or a different test is needed, an appropriate referral can be discussed.
Will I need specialist referral?
Some patients require respiratory, ENT, neurological or specialist sleep assessment. Where this is more appropriate, we will explain the recommended pathway.
Is this service suitable for children?
No. This service currently assesses adults. Children with sleep problems should be seen through an appropriate paediatric pathway.
How much does the sleep assessment cost?
The comprehensive sleep assessment costs £245 and lasts up to 60 minutes. Follow-up consultations cost £125. Tests and medication are charged separately where applicable.
